Sidelights summer ends as birds quiet with autumn near
In Frederick a quiet end to summer arrives as goldenrod blooms and leaves fall. Earlier, birds roared in Court Square yards teaching their last broods to fly, with robins, cardinals, sparrows and a prowling cat influencing the scene. Europe beckons for Richard Leichertz and his mother after finishing his novel Benjy, while others like Charles Reid plan on cabin life and local work, and travel notes recount museums, sports plans, and upcoming events for Frederick readers.

Mums for Fall Decor and Football Fashion
Chrysanthemums or mums peak in fall and are sold year round for home decor and events. Large mums and pompons are used at football games and as corsages for social occasions. To keep blooms longer, split stems, place ends in warm water, remove submerged foliage, and add flower preservative.
