Two Soviet Jets to Fly Here for UN General Assembly
The United States granted Soviet permission for two TU-144 passenger jets to land in September for the United Nations General Assembly visit. Flights are planned Sept 3-7 and Sept 13-17, with Idlewild or nearby New York airfields as landing sites. The jets would mark a first for Soviet civil aviation in the United States and follow a history of rare Soviet military landings here.
