Blind beggar Eddie Romwell exposes sham workman scam
A self described professional beggar Eddie Romwell, claiming Philadelphia as home, is said to solicit alms in towns during summer and return to Philadelphia in winter. He was confronted by Officer Miller at Market and Patrick streets and ordered to leave Frederick. Romwell described his profitable scheme and past hauls in Hanover and other Pennsylvania towns. Police say many similar visitors have recently detected beggars, insisting residents stop donating to deter them. Also reported is a successful outing by Garber Baking Company employees at Baker's Meadow near Buckeystown with games, prizes, a picnic and return trip by auto.
