Three Cars Collide at Market and South Street

Has Served 2 Months Asks For His Release Hearing
Charles H. Wallace of Brunswick has served two months of a three year sentence for assault and battery following wife beating. He filed in Circuit Court for a writ of habeas corpus to air the circumstances of his confinement. Associate Judge Arthur D. Willard issued a writ directed to Elmer B. Carl, warden of the State Penal Farm near Hagerstown, setting Wednesday at 10 o'clock for the hearing. Wallace was transferred to the State farm from the House of Correction. The sentence was imposed June 26 by Justice William H. Campbell after Wallace was found guilty of beating his wife and dragging his small child upstairs and throwing it on the bed. His wife, Margaret C. Wallace, filed the motion. He had previously been charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct connected to the assault.
