McKeesport August 24 excursion boat An hhile Roberts carrying 1500 passengers sank near Market Street while returning from a trip with the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Passengers were rescued with skiffs and barges. no fatalities reported though many narrowly escaped drowning. Separately, the Indiana steamer sank in Indianapolis canal with about 50 aboard. reports vary on drownings but rescue efforts saved many, including women and children.
