A northern easter storm drenched Frederick County causing widespread flooding and road closures. The Monocacy river rose rapidly washing out bridges and flooding fields, with detours and railroad delays. No fatalities were reported though rescues and evacuations occurred. Thurmont and Detour faced the worst impacts as rivers crested and telecommunication failed.
Crescent Limited crash on a bridge over the Anacostia river during a rainstorm left engineer Arthur H Bride and fireman Fay dead. Thirteen or more were injured including William H. Brown and Charles Kenny. The wreck caused widespread flood damage in Thurmont and surrounding areas as storms toppled trees and deluged roads.
The hurricane storm disaster caused multiple deaths and widespread damage along the Atlantic seaboard. Maryland reported at least seven dead with trains derailed near Tuxedo and shore communities washed out, sparking massive disruptions and evacuations.

Three men from Washington including Paul Sample secretary to Senator Frederick Van Nuys were rescued after spending more than four hours atop a stump willow tree beside the Liberty road as Israel creek and Monocacy river waters rose. Beardslee Englehart and Nicodemus organized a canoe rescue piloted by Kilne and Nicodemus, bringing them to Frederick then to the Key Hotel for treatment.
Norfolk Va Aug 24 AP The hurricane battered steamship Madison with ten of its crew swept to their deaths by mountainous waves, the ship drifted into port after distress calls. Second Mate Lycurgus Lawrence of North Carolina and Quartermaster Edward Corbett of Newfoundland were carried overboard. The forward house was torn away and the superstructure wrecked. two crew members were injured and passengers arrived fatigued with lifebelts and lost baggage.
