Minister Drowns Saving Nephew in River
Rev. Dayton Baird Mier, pastor of Boundary Avenue Methodist Episcopal church in Baltimore, drowned Saturday in the South River while trying to save his young nephew who fell overboard during a fishing trip. Witnesses reported Miller leaped in after the boy as the boat veered. Mooney at the helm and Mrs. Miller watched as the minister disappeared beneath the water with the child. Rescuers found no trace of either. The World War chaplain had previously served in Langdon Walkersville Yellow Springs and Howard Park churches. He joined Baltimore Conference in 1910 and was stationed at Boundary Avenue for four years prior to his death.
