Drop In Birth Rate Due To Early Marriage
Washington AP reports a temporary drop in the birth rate in the 1950s linked to earlier marriages and younger motherhood. The Public Health Service cautions there is no evidence of a trend toward smaller families and does not expect the decline to continue long term. The national statistics office estimates about 4,203,000 births this year versus 4,292,000 last year, noting women marrying younger form families earlier and many mothers have already completed their families by midlife, reducing later births.
