Deadly cobra loose in Silver Spring park
A monocellate cobra escaped from a cage and is believed roaming Sligo Creek Park in Silver Spring. Montgomery County police issued a warning as Animal Control investigates, with the owner evicted and renters reporting the escape. The two foot snake has a brown body and a dark head, and is said to be full grown by officials.

Two injured in head on crash in Darnestown area
A two car collision at Md 28 and Md 107 left Lorraine Yonemura 40 of Darnestown and an 18 year old Gaithersburg man in critical condition. Yonemura suffered abdominal injuries while Glen Gehrke received chest injuries. Others injured include Gary Yonemura 63 with a broken foot and Emmanuel Obbolu 20 not wearing a belt. Police pending charges. Obbolu driving a 1987 Chevrolet Nova. Yonemura in a 1976 Datsun 280.

Montgomery County to See Easing Traffic With Major Road Projects
Montgomery officials announce next week opens three large projects in Germantown Gaithersburg and Bethesda as part of 16 statewide this season costing over 100 million. Key West Avenue finalizing will speed access to high tech firms and reduce Md 28 congestion. Great Seneca Highway and Woodglen Drive widenings also proceed, with more four lane upgrades planned along Md 28 to Olney and Muddy Branch realignment. Maryland plans 500 million in highways here over six years to relieve Bethesda Silver Spring and Md 29 corridors.

Helicopter crash on Potomac River kills three
A Bell Jet Ranger crashed into the Washington Channel near a marina killing three passengers. Pilot Jack Turley survived after leaping free and remains in serious but stable condition with head and spinal injuries. Victims were William Weems, 44, a freelance photographer, Robert Joy, 45, and Victorie Hinckley, 24, all from Washington.
