Frederick Notables Switch Careers and Orioles Glow
Two Frederick residents change careers with one becoming Methodist pastors Bill and Janet Rousiey in a happier season, while the Orioles’ long extra inning loss on national TV drew cheers for fan loyalty. The piece also notes Maryland Bank’s flock of stuffed birds, a savings merger, a Polk exhibit in D.C., Kit n Carlyle kittens debates, and the passing of teacher Evelyn Wallace with memorials to St. John’s institute.

300 Teachers Appointed in Frederick County Schools
Acting Superintendent James C. Biehl announced that over 300 teachers were appointed in Frederick County Schools, including about 200 white elementary teachers, 33 black elementary teachers, more than 70 white high school teachers, and four black high school teachers, as about 800 children were expected to enter county schools for the first time. Summer training for Maryland National Guard Aviation Division continued at Frederick Detrick Field with the site chosen for the first time. Judy Valentine of Emmitsburg was named Frederick County Farm Queen for Timonium State Fair. County Agent Henry R. Shoemaker estimated county corn value loss from drought at about $20,000, with the 20,000-acre crop down about 10 bushels per acre, reducing annual crop value from roughly $1,500,000.
