Wagner Endorses Kennedy in New York Senate Fight
New York Mayor Robert F. Wagner endorsed Robert F. Kennedy for the Democratic Senate nomination, virtually assuring Kennedy the party’s nomination. Kennedy, 38, would oppose incumbent Republican Senator Kenneth B. Keating, who seeks a second term separate from Goldwater’s GOP ticket. Keating, 64, is a veteran of 18 years in Congress, including six as senator.

Plans for convent event and Kennedy nomination notes
The News Frederick outlines plans for a convent open event on Saturday August 22 1964 and discusses Kennedy as the strongest candidate with solid backing among state Democratic leaders. It notes questions over Kennedy’s residency status for election purposes if he campaigns in New York and voting rights in November. The report also covers Archbishop Ramsey inviting Moscow Patriarch to visit in late September 1964. It mentions South Korea opening a power plant funded by a US loan and a 1964 pigment extraction from oat sprouts used in research.

Kennedy signals shift to New York politics in Senate bid
President Johnson backs Kennedy entry into New York politics to bolster the party and seek one of the two Republican Senate seats. Kennedy plans to announce and resign as attorney general on Sept. 1 as the State Democratic Convention meets in New York. In Washington Kennedy works in the Justice Department amid no immediate reaction to Wagner's endorsement despite pleas from Rep. Samuel Stratton for the nomination.
