Yeltsin rallies opposition to hard line coup leaders

Local experts say reforms will endure after coup

Man dies in Md 26 crash near Libertytown

A Mount Airy man, Guy A. Moore 55, of Harvest Bills Court, died late Monday night when his eastbound Cougar ran off Md 26 west of Libertytown and struck a tree just west of Md 31. Moore was ejected. police reported no charges.

Cleanup could cost Frederick County up to 250000

County road crews face cleanup of four illegal dump sites and five streams with potential costs near 250000. State agencies cited the county for debris dumping at 13 sites and 16 additional sites on private or county property. Four sites remain, including locations on Warner Brothers Inc property and land owned by Donald Abrams and Marshall Seiss.

BoE backs Rock Creek School in mainstreaming plan

Frederick County Board of Education officials Monday affirmed they will keep Rock Creek School and not close it despite moves to mainstream disabled students. Dr. Costello outlined efforts to place mentally and physically handicapped students in the least restrictive environments, while board members cautioned against overdoing mainstreaming and noted possible space gains without reducing total student numbers. Three parents spoke on dyslexia programs, concern over training, and potential program changes.

Varied rainfall hits Frederick County after Sunday

Weather watchers report parts of Frederick County received over an inch of rain since Sunday. Clarence Bittle of Myersville logged two inches between Sunday night and Tuesday morning while a Tuesday morning storm dropped half an inch. Lucille Beale counted just over a tenth of an inch Sunday to Monday with a Monday night storm adding half an inch. A lightning strike at 3402 Keats Terrace prompted a housing response and officials note a front mixing with moist air moving through the area.
