Emmitsburg School Builds Sports Spirit From Makeshift Means
Emmitsburg High School, lacking facilities, created a track pit and pole vault area from mats, used a lawn mower to contour a circle for a track, and built a concrete shot put area. The program survived with small squads and later merged with Thurmont to form Catoctin High School, continuing soccer and other sports amid limited resources and a strong culture of perseverance.
