Corn crop uncertain as rains bring relief across Maryland Delaware

Scattered showers last week offered only temporary relief to crops in the region. Soil moisture remained short as heat stressed growth and reduced yields. The corn crop faces uncertainty with many wet fields maturing early. 89 percent silked vs 90 percent last two years. Harvests progress on alfalfa and hay remains strong, while pastures suffer from hot dry weather. Cattle slaughter, calves, swine, and sheep activity show declines from prior periods, though liveweight per animal rose slightly.
