Bill outlawing the Communist party approved by Congress
Washington reports Congress passed a bill branding the Communist party as an instrument of a conspiracy to overthrow the government. The Senate 79 to 0 and the House 265 to 2 approved the measure, sending it to President Eisenhower for signature. The act ostracizes the party and bars rights on ballots, while excluding a full criminal act for membership. It also targets labor groups as Red infiltrated and links to the McCarran Act provisions, with enforcement concerns raised by Atty. Gen. Brownell.
