Memoir of Mehrling Holdcraft From Boy to Genealogist
The narrative traces Mehrling Holdcraft's youth in Frederick, his schooling from fifth grade to high school, and early work experiences. A chance trip spurred his enlistment in the U.S. Army, leading to medical corps service, wartime duty aboard the USS George Washington, and later studies in wireless tech. After the war he pursued journalism, married Edna Mund, raised three children, and developed a passion for genealogy aided by Dr. Dern and a West Coast publisher, culminating in the creation of Names in Stone and preservation efforts for Frederick County history.
