Senate Approves Mathias Amendment for Senior Home Sale Exclusion
The Senate adopted an amendment cosponsored by Sen. Charles McC Mathias Jr that allows people 65 or older to exclude from taxable income the gain on home sales if the price does not exceed 35 000. Mathias argues inflation has eroded seniors purchasing power and the change lets them use the funds in retirement. The amendment was adopted during tax reform bill passage.
