Weekend Notes From Frederick Maryland Cantankerous Weather Yet Cheerful

Mary Jane writes about hot sun and cool nights, mosquito bites, and pockets stretched by drab croquettes. She mentions bands, open-air worship, picnics, fairs in Mt. Airy and Hagerstown, weddings, social gatherings, moving pictures, and a booming agricultural fair season with premiums. She recalls old times, cotton candy days, and community optimism amid rising costs and coal worries. The piece closes with fond memories and a toast to health and harvest.
