Maryland S and Ls in good health says delegate
Maryland savings and loan institutions are in fine health and customers well protected, says Del. George Littrell. A legislative task force on S&Ls, chaired by Sen. Howard Denis, delivered a final report urging limited reforms while opposing higher MSSIC insurance, and criticizing the 40 percent loan rule as arbitrary.

Maryland S&L overseer tightens brokered accounts rule
Maryland's S&L division proposes limiting brokered savings to 10 percent for large institutions and 5 percent for smaller ones, with Oct 1 effective date. Only 13 of 115 Maryland S&Ls have brokered savings, the highest being 17 percent. The panel also backs grants of cease and desist powers and increased asset disclosures, while resisting mandatory officer director disclosures and a 4 percent director stake.
