Northerly route chosen for final I 70 link in Frederick
The Maryland DOT will back Plan B the northerly reroute of 3.8 miles of I 70 from Sjamsville Road to East Patrick Street Frederick in the final environmental impact statement. Plan B is among three proposals under review since 1972 and involves seven at grade intersections where four highway fatalities have occurred since January. Federal guidelines require no at grade intersections for interstate status making this section locally U S 40. A June 24 letter to the Frederick County Planning Commission notes the decision.
