Trustees Object to Cemetery Turned Park on East Sixth
Some trustees of the Laboring Sons cemetery on East Sixth Street oppose converting the burial ground into a public park or playground. City Attorney E Austin James said he was advised that trustees who object reside in Philadelphia. A petition from East Fifth and East Sixth residents asked for park use, while Mayor Gittinger and Aldermen favored the plan if legal questions were settled. Residents note the nearest playground is East Third Street and Baker Park is distant for local children.
