Acquittal in Thurmont liquor case shocks town

Harry Hewett of near Thurmont is found not guilty of selling intoxicating liquor after John Welsh of Tacoma Park alters his testimony. Welsh had claimed Hewett supplied him a pint of corn whisky and led him to the mountains. Welsh previously served nine months for manslaughter while Hewett served nine months for liquor selling. The trial ended with a dismissal as the magistrate ruled the prosecuting witness’s statements unclear. The Quitania burns 33 000 barrels of oil daily on trans Atlantic routes.
