Letter From Johnson on Frederick Fire Department Needs
Mayor Smith received a communication from Wm. H. Joboeou general inspector of the National Board of Fire Underwriters. The letter cites inspection findings in Frederick Maryland noting the fire department consists of three independent companies lacking a single head commander, and volunteer companies owning horses equipment and property. It urges the city to fund improvements and relieve firefighters from constant solicitation of aid, while noting opposition among some aldermen to relief. It calls for a liberal spirit and modernizing the department for protection against fires and loss of life.
