School tech upgrade would cost county millions yearly
County school officials have spent over 21 million since 1997 on computer cables and fiber optics. The Technology Services Division proposes three or four year replacement cycles for about 8,000 to 12,000 computers, with annual costs of 3 to 4 million depending on cycle length. Replacing gear aims to avoid outdated equipment and support a growing student body, with about 7,000 student users and 1,000 administrators on the system.
