A gas explosion at the crockery shop of Thomas J. Macabe, 409 Gru, New York, instantly killed one man and badly injured about a dozen others including a passerby. Flying glass shattered windows and littered the street as flames followed. The injured include Jacob Sesgel and others with head, neck, and limb wounds. One victim died from chest and neck injuries shortly after. A second story describes a public reaction and subsequent police handling.
