Windstorm devastates Frederick grocery roof and blackouts many homes
A severe thunderstorm delivering 50 to 70 mph winds and heavy rain struck western Frederick Saturday afternoon, ripping a large roof section from a grocery store and darkening about 8,000 homes and businesses. About 1,000 customers remained without power Sunday morning as repairs began. Food Lion on Yellow Springs Road faced a 10 day to three week closure. No serious injuries were reported.
