VJ Day kiss photo controversy centers on sailor claim
Greta Friedman disputes Jim Reynolds as the Times Square kiss pictured by Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 27 1945. Reynolds says the image shows him the nurse and sailor on V E Day but Friedman maintains it was taken on V E Day May 1945. She recalls the moment with the nurse in Times Square, the euphoria, and later scrutiny over identifications. Mendonza’s photo analysis supports his claim, citing wrist and hairline details and noting his fiancee appears in the frame.
