60 Miles of Coal Cars Idle Causes Nationwide Concern
President M. O. C. Byers of the Western Maryland warns sixty miles of coal cars laden with full cargoes clog the Brunswick to Curtis Bay corridor. He cites coal permits delays and shipowners not unloading as the worst congestion he has seen, harming mine production as New England demand rises. The Baltimore and Ohio system alone has over 5,000 coal cars idled between Baltimore and Brunswick. Railroads are not to blame, Byers says, but have pledged to move the volumes allotted to them.
