Major General J P S Gobin resigns as commander of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He forwarded the resignation to Governor Stuart to take effect August 19 while remaining acting commander until then. Gobin, age and illness cited, led the guard since 1906 and retires with honors after a long career in the state militia and the Grand Army of the Republic.
