Port Deposit Maryland August 16 Constable Paul Waggoner of Rising Sun arrested Stephen Woodrow and Alfred J. Kirk for horse stealing. The pair, intoxicated, swapped Brotton property trading Brottons horse near Port Deposit then traded again with Andrew McVey. They were jailed in Elkton after bail set at 300 dollars each.
A circulated report from Georgetown 20 miles south describes a man allegedly throwing his son into a threshing machine after an incident with a knife. The boy was cut to pieces and the father fled, later said to have been lynched, with the tale causing great public sensation.
