Wreck at Van Express on Pennsylvania Road Kills Engineer
Fifteen minutes after Aug. 15 a wreck at Van Wert Ohio on the Pennsylvania line killed Charles B. Eaton the engineer and injured several others. The engine struck an open switch then the first mail car rode over it followed by three cars all destroyed to kindling wood while the rear cars stayed on track. It is believed the open switch resulted from a local freight crew that had been switching nearby accidentally leaving it open.
