Study warns Hayward Fault quake could devastate Bay Area
A California Division of Mines and Geology study projects a 7.5 magnitude Hayward Fault quake east of San Francisco Bay could kill 1,500 to 4,500, injure 45,000 to 135,000, and hospitalize 4,500 to 13,500 while causing broad infrastructure collapse from Napa to San Jose. It notes the Golden Gate Bridge and Bay tunnel would survive.
