Jule Barber 17 of Frederick earns the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in scouting, for leading the Generation Links project at Montevue Nursing Home. She is a Frederick High School senior, National Honor Society member and Marching Band participant, with ties to Troop 1400 and the Frederick High School community.

Baggett earns Eagle Scout at Sugarloaf Mountain project
Daniel Baggett of Middie town and Troop 478 completed a 120 hour Eagle Scout project at Sugarloaf Mountain on the Frederick Montgomery border on June 9. He organized 20 helpers to prune 3 5 inch thick American Chestnut trees at two sites as Stronghold Inc owns the orchard. Frederick County Boy Scouts log over 9000 hours of Eagle work yearly to support parks and community groups.

Hughes earns Girl Scout Gold Award
Laura Hughes of Frederick earned the Girl Scout Gold Award the highest honor in Girl Scouting. As a Senior Troop 1400 member she spoke to area elementary and middle schools about sportsmanship and nonviolent conflict resolution using video games and stories from her life. Bartlette earns Eagle Scout at Camp Airy work
Steve Bartlette of Jefferson completed his Eagle Project with Middletown's Troop 476 at Camp Airy west of Thurmont on June 10. He and his family and fellow scouts logged over 120 hours restoring 1200 feet of hillside through mulching terracing planting and seeding to protect a roadway and control erosion. The project honored his grandfather William Gottlieb who attended Camp Airy in the 1920s and followed Ron Allen, a long-time helper who died recently and had scouted there since the 1940s.

Back to School Night and Ninth Grade Orientation at Brunswick High
Freshmen orientation begins August 23 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium to ease the Middle School to Brunswick High transition. Incoming 9th graders and parents urged to attend.
