County to insure investments are collateralized in deals
Frederick County Maryland moved to curb risk from repurchase agreements after Beaumont Texas suffered a 20 million loss. County Comptroller Thomas M Fox said the board approved an agreement with Alex Brown and Sons to ensure repayment capability and designated Findlay to oversee contracts. The county last year committed 6.2 million to repurchase deals, with 5.8 million with Alex Brown and earned 9.25 to 11.25 percent short term interest. Maryland National Bank also pools excess funds for overnight repurchase agreements to cover timing gaps.
