Feed Shortage Warns Jones as Northeastern Dairy Seeks Aid
Washington August 12 The War Food Administration warned by Northeastern Dairy Conference and Northeastern Poultry Producers Council that 43 million consumers in the region face short supplies of fluid milk eggs and poultry for the next two months unless the government acts to provide livestock feed. They blame price policies for limiting shipments from New England and Mid Atlantic states. They urge support from national farm groups including the Grange Farm Bureau National Council of Farmer Cooperatives and Milk Producers Federation. The shortage centerpiece is corn and protein feeds constrained by price ceilings, with 1 675 000 tons estimated for the coming year. Corn is not moving due to a 1 07 ceiling and 13 75 floor on hog feed, which could push Midwestern farmers to feed corn to hogs rather than sell it. The committee warns dairy output could fall without action. the government weighs feed allocation priorities. In London Captain Clark Gable rode with the U S Eighth Air Force in the attack on Gelsenkirchen, shooting a gunnery film during a six hour mission.
