London August 13 The Daily Chronicle publishes a three column interview with Mrs Florence Maybrick detailing her prison experiences. She is described as clear witted outspoken mildly robust and not shattered mentally though visibly worn. She longs to reach the United States and asks friends to carry her heartfelt thanks for their fight on her behalf.
In Chicago on August 13 a violent meat strike riot erupted near city hall as missiles rained from office buildings and trains carrying strike breakers were attacked. About six men were wounded in various clashes and President Golden of the Teamsters Union was assaulted while aiding Max Falk, a union driver, who was beset by a mob of about four hundred pursuing him for his union affiliation. Golden took the wagon reins to retreat, suffering injuries as stones and sticks struck him and Falk.
New Haven Conn Aug 13 The supreme court of error handed down a decision adverse to William J Bryan in his contest over the will of the late P and Bennett of New York and this city The ruling denies that Bryan is entitled to the 50 000 named in a sealed letter to be read to his widow upon Mr Bennetts death The decision sustains the superior court and probate court opinions and notes no opinion was filed with the decision Chief Justice Torrance wrote the memoranda
The navy issued a brief account of the August 10 11 engagement with Port Arthur ships and the pursuit near Yenlao Island. The cruisers Askold Novik and others fled south while several battleships cruisers and torpedo boats returned to Port Arthur. Casualties cited: 170.

London officials and foreign diplomats regard Japan’s seizure of the Russian torpedo destroyer Ryeshitelni at Chefoo as a serious issue with wider implications. Russia formally protests through France, citing the ship’s dismantling and firing on sailors in the water. Also, in Defiance, Ohio, three killed and three injured as a Baltimore and Ohio trolley wreck near a curve at the crossing.
In Wilkesbarre on August 13 the board of conciliation failed to accept either side's proposal on judge Gray's interpretation of award No 5. Miners urged full interpretation of the award while operators offered changes. The group adjourned without action, next meeting set in New York August 19, and grievances Nos 49 110 and 52 were referred or left unresolved.
