Three Men Crushed in Blast Furnace Accident
In Cleveland Ohio three workers died instantly at the Cleveland Furnace Company's new plant as a six ton bell atop a 75 foot stack toppled during the first blast. The bell crashed without warning, pinning the men inside. bodies were recovered from the top after lowering ropes. Investigators cited a possible machinery failure in the bell control mechanism.

Panic and injuries after gun cartridge explosion at Frankford Arsenal
At the United States Arsenal in Frankford a cartridge explosion caused a wild panic among about 125 women workers. Four young women were injured and about 100 fainted as they fled from shattered windows and smoke. The injured were treated at the arsenal infirmary and sent home.

Silver Spray Fired On In Lake Encounter With Petrel
Erie, Aug. 13 The fishing vessel Silver Spray from Erie arrived badly damaged after a clash with the Canadian revenue cutter Petrel on the lake near the Canadian line. One crewman, Frederick Culver, was wounded in the leg by a stray shot. the captain, Captain Chris Chau, escaped with the boat crossing the dividing line before the Petrel ceased fire. The incident follows years of disputes with American fishermen over poaching on Canadian waters. Captain Chau plans to report to the state department in Washington.

Bowman F Gallagher tobacco salesman found dead at Leland Hotel Waynesboro Pa. once with Neudecker Tobacco Co for 25 years he was 60 and survived by sisters Ida and Anna. Thomas E Dixon died at home near Thurston July 25 of apoplexy aged about 62. survived by wife and five children, a brother and four cousins. Funeral July 27 at Urbana M E Church, interment at nearby cemetery. Pallbearers listed as R A Davis, John R Peters, K E Harris, D W Dutrow, H P Peters, W McElfresh.

Eighth Maryland State Camp Ends in Frederick
The eighth annual session of the Maryland State Camp of the Patriotic Order Lone of America closed in Frederick with Memorial Day style ceremonies at the Francis Scott Key monument. State President Eliot Heaps delivered an eloquent address, a wreath was laid, and the Star Spangled Banner sung. Officials were installed and praise given to Mayor Smith and Justice Wood for support. Alternates to the National camp were announced and several delegates visited the local camp that evening.
