Maryland to provide health care for kids starting October
Maryland will start in October a basic health coverage plan for about 15 000 low income children who lack insurance. The program costs 3 million dollars annually but aims to cut long term costs by keeping youths healthy and out of emergency rooms. It covers immunizations prescriptions and primary care for those under 18 not eligible for Medicaid with incomes up to 185 percent of the federal poverty level, but excludes hospital stays and specialist services.
