Washington August 12 IAP-Al though hazel skies limited visibility 24 meteors were observed in the Perseus shower between 1189 pm last night and 3454 tm today by Commander Asaph Ball at the Naval Observatory. The display featured red streaks and a yellow halo near the end noted as part of the Brwon Comet of 7462, with speculation it may be known as The Trail of St Lawrence.

Representatives from eleven states will attend the sixth annual session of the National Council U U A M to be held August 24 to 26. Events include an opening address by Mayor Lloyd C. Culler, memorial service at United Brethren church, a Wayside Inn banquet, and officer installations. Local Freemason councils host with plans for sightseeing and a packed schedule led by A T Abernathy and other national officers.

Richard Reese Whittemore, condemned to death for fatally wounding guard Robert Holtman during a prison escape, seeks a writ of error and habeas corpus after Maryland courts denied a new trial. Negro lawyer Pendleton plans to present the case to Justice Holmes or other justices in Beverly Farm Massachusetts to delay the execution slated for after midnight.
New York Aug 12 AP The State Athletic Commission in special session today recommended that Jack Dempsey be granted a license to meet Gene Tunney for the world heavyweight championship at the Ankes Stadium on September 16 The commission voted two to one in favor The action paves the way for the license committee to reconsider its earlier denial but no disposition can be made until next Monday
Frederick hosts John Robinson's famed circus on its 103rd annual tour with two performances at the Fair Grounds. The event includes animal acts, acrobats, trapeze, and clowns, with the Episcopal Orphanage children as guests. The parade was dropped for crowd safety and traffic flow as the big tent rises for another stop on the circuit.
