Brunswick businessman turns old Acme into center
Charles E Smith who once bagged groceries at the Acme in Brunswick now owns the West Potomac Street building and is transforming it into a 12,500 square foot business center for a Dollar General store, a steak and seafood restaurant, a barber shop, and Bull Hop Wood Enterprises. Partner Clay Martz, with Brunswick officials backing the project, expects openings in September or October. The center is accessible to the disabled and meets fire codes, and Smith retrieved the brass bell from his first job for a special place in the project.

Microsoft asks judge to throw out antitrust suits
Microsoft urged Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson to dismiss the Justice Department and 20 states antitrust lawsuits, arguing no trial is needed. The company cited prior rulings and rival evidence while noting an appeals court favored its bundled browser legality. The government called the filing nothing new and pressed for trial in September.
