Forty thousand telephone workers struck for a second day as regional AT&T breakup pressures unfold. Across the nation, 39,000 CWA members in Western states reached settlements after midnight strikes. Most New York Nynex workers remained on strike while tentative deals reached elsewhere. Clara Allen of the CWA said talks continued late into Sunday night. Tony Pappas of Nynex voiced hope the strike would end soon. About 900 CWA workers at Ameritech’s publishing unit in OH, MI, IN walked out.
