Farmers Free to Sell Corn as 1998 Harvest Forecast Cubs

Washington reports that farmers may sell or feed to animals the corn they produce this year. The crop reporting board forecasts 1998 corn at 2,568,221,000 bushels and the AAA will not hold a referendum on restricting sales. Wallace estimates marketing-year supply at 2,886,000,000 with 320,000,000 surplus. wheat and oats projections follow with current and ten-year averages.

Emmitsburg Boy Scouts Return From Natural Dam Camp

Emmitsburg residents report the local troop of Boy Scouts returning Friday afternoon after a week camping along Marsh Creek at Natural Dam. The group lists Carroll Topper as scout master and Eugene Rodgers as assistant, with Rev Philip Bower and Charles Edward Rowe among leaders and many scouts named. Also noted are visits to Baltimore relatives, a wedding trip to Ohio, and ongoing charity retreat at St Joseph's College.

Boy Hurt When Thrown From Horse

Ralph Green, 12, son of Mr and Mrs John Green near Adamsown, was thrown from a horse and trampled, suffering severe facial lacerations. He was rushed to Frederick City Hospital and is improving after treatment.
