Baltimore and Liberty high ways patrolled as search widens. Police begin to abandon the lengthy search as investigators adjust plans and extend patrols to nearby routes.
Two coatless men wanted for stealing a car and gasoline remained at large after a 12 hour search by state, city and county officers. The chase began when Manville Kefauver reported a stolen Gulf station car. officers traced the fugitives near Linganore Creek, firing warning shots as they closed in. The recovered Chevrolet coupe carried stolen Maryland plates 141-413, later tied to Baltimore residents Margaret and Samuel Gibson.
Washington AP reports the president will not attend the Senate Democratic dinner honoring Majority Leader Barkley of Kentucky. He will send a regret message to Vice President Garner to be read at the stag banquet. The event is described as a harmony affair amid party splits over the court bill and leadership. Discussion also touches on presidential elections in the Capitol.
Wanamaker Hamilton, a Libertytown auto dealer, died of acute alcoholism on Saturday. His plan to raffle an expensive car to a lucky number holder ended with his death and a halted scheme. His brother Palmer Hamilton was initially detained over a fight at a colored picnic. Palmer had past legal trouble as a fence in a theft case linked to Claude Countee.
Dr Ignatius Bjorlee superintendent of the Maryland State School for the Deaf reports farmers along his summer trip from Frederick to Minnesota encountered unusually prosperous farmland this year due to abundant rainfall. He notes drier conditions in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa, with worries a timely June rain is needed to save corn. Bjorlee and wife traveled 1060 miles via the Lincoln highway. Also mentioned is Ralph McGlaughlin suffering a toe fracture at a quarry in Gettysburg after two men tried to thumb a ride. police were alerted but the attempt failed.

In a brief hearing on the Peoples Court morning session Judge Patrick M. Schnauber dismissed a charge of cursing on a public highway brought by John A. Smith of Unionville against Theodore Martin of Unionville. The offense stemmed from an incident on June 20 when Smith’s son Guy missed a rifle, leading to Smith accusing Martin. no evidence supported the charge.
A car from Theresa New York struck a four horses wagon loaded with corn near Mt Olivet cemetery on the Washington Pike. Miss Agnes Snell 26 died at Frederick City Hospital about twelve hours after the crash. Attending injured were Mrs Ruth A Gross Miss Grace McPhee Falmer Miss Marjorie Sayer Roy Main and Ridter Lines. The crash occurred during a thunder shower as the New York party traveling to Luray Va turned back to Frederick. State authorities investigated with help from Frederick police.

Rome Aug 10 AP Mussolini acting as his own minister of war assumed charge of preparations for large scale war games to test Sveilian defenses and deter a Mediterranean invasion. He toured the harbor, inspected a dummy destroyer, and announced a political speech in Palermo after maneuvers amid hopes for better UK relations and possible France talks.
State police relayed to Dr Jos Grabill that his automobile stolen a week ago from Dr Giatall's garage in Mt Airy has been recovered. The car was found in running condition. It was unclear if instrument cases and supplies were recovered with it.
Pennsylvania highway workers widen sections of Emmitsburg Road from Gettysburg to the Maryland line by adding two foot shoulders. Work began at Middle Creek Bridge and will continue northward, about 30 men employed, completion expected in several weeks. Also, 11 year old Ethel Patty Gemey of Emmitsburg was treated for a broken right arm and chest injuries after falling from an express wagon on an Emmitsburg street and hospitalized in Getty.
Washington Aug 10 President Roosevelt said he signed with much reluctance the Intering department supply bill providing for reclamation education and many activities The executive objected to a large increase in the vocational education fund and aid while stressing that federal support should not be enlarged without careful study The advisory committee on education urged no amendment to continue the program under existing terms noting efforts to expand vocational training are premature and concerns about unequal opportunities persist

Det Capt doin A Cooney identified three men as members of the Brady gang wanted for murder of an Indianapolis officer and bank robberies. Albert Brady 26, James Dalhover 30, and Clarence Lee Shaffer 21 were identified by two Baltimore sisters from photos. The women said they married two men after the brothers moved to Elkton eight months earlier.
Madrid reports renewed action on the western front as insurgents launch a new attack to clear government forces from Villanueva del Callejo. General Francisco Franco commands infantry in shell-ravaged villages as the push targets the wedge's rear guard and the spearhead led by General Jose Miajos.

Daytona Beach Florida August 10 AP a 14 passenger Eastern Airlines plane crashed into a newly erected power line near the airport and then into a thicket killing four. Captain Stuart Dietz Baltimore chief pilot and co-pilot Robert Reed Kingston Jamaica among the dead. The flight en route from Chicago to Miami struck the line at 4 40 am shortly after takeoff from Daytona Beach. Four others injured severe shock and head injuries. Power line had been erected by Florida Power and Light Company as a temporary fix for a power outage the aircraft rose about 40 feet before contact and plowed 150 feet through the ground.
