Turkish Battleship Barbarossa Sunk by Entente Submarine

Constantinople reports the Turkish battleship Barbarossa, formerly the German Kurfurst Friedrich Wilhelm, of about 9000 tons, was sunk by an Entente submarine. Most officers and men were saved, per an official proclamation issued in the Turkish capital.

Paris reports a general German assault against Belgian British and French positions along the western front. Attacks from the North Sea to Alsace, with heavy bombardment north of Souchez Artola and repeated trench assaults repulsed. Italy to Reinforce Allies With 650000 Troops Soon

New York August 10 Italy plans to send 650000 fresh troops to France or the Dardanelles within three weeks, according to Captain Victor Del Franchis of the Italian army who arrived aboard the Duca d Aosta. He cited 600000 troops in Tutte and 150000 more in Taranto with 150 to 200 transports ready. He will buy leather goods for the Hallam army and visit New England factories.

Lightning Kills Twelve Sheep at Sharpless Estate

West Chester Pennsylvania August 10 thunderstorm kills twelve sheep on the estate of B M Sharpless in West Goshen. Twenty sheltered near a wire fence when lightning struck the fence and ran along the wire killing all sheep adjacent instantly.

An Italian corporal earned a gold medal for valor after surprising fifty Avattian troops in trenches. He ordered surrender and, after drawing attention of a nearby Hallan outpost, marched the prisoners to Italian lines. Say you saw it in The News.
