The 60 plus Arch bishop Chappelle of Louisiana died after a rapid decline from yellow fever in New Orleans. His wife Mrs Chappelle and he had returned from a Louisiana tour, with Dr. Larue noting early signs and authorities reporting 63 new cases and seven deaths.
An advertisement promotes Newhro’s Herpicide as the original germicide for dandruff and baldness control. It argues other products feed the dandruff-causing germs and claims Herpicide’s formula attacks the scalp parasite. Sample offered for 10 cents. distributed by The Herpicide Co. Detroit with J. A. Williamsen as special agent.
The archbishop’s body is moved to St Louis Cathedral where it lies in state for obsequies set at the cathedral. A Gregorian mass was held at 10 this morning and will be repeated tomorrow and Saturday before the coffin is lowered in the crypt. Father Scotus and Bishop Trouxel will officiate. The late archbishop, connected to national figures and Manila affairs, was a social luminary in New Orleans. Public health notes show 63 new yellow fever cases and 7 deaths yesterday, with broad concerns and federal control now handling sanitary work via the Marine Hospital Service.
