Diversion Of Traffic Trial Diverts Southbound Route
A test plan to divert southbound traffic on U S 15 and 240 from South and South Market streets showed moderate success Sunday afternoon. Chief Charles V. Main reported temporary Bentz street signs caused some confusion with permanent poles guiding a left from Bentz to South Street. Despite confusion, several drivers followed the diversion. Temporary signs were installed as Sunday traffic rose, with Center and Madison streets also marked. The heavy South Street congestion upset east Frederick residents, and Mayor John A Derr opposed permanent Madison street routing due to school hazards. Chief Main will pursue an origin-destination survey from years past to assess westward U S 40 traffic and possible temporary Madison routing. The plan did not affect eastbound Baltimore or westbound Washington traffic. Sunday traffic was heavy with vacationers and weekend drivers, and southbound U S 15/240 arrivals into Frederick backed up to Madison Street due to Market signals.

Review Of 245 Ballots Is Ordered
A ballot by ballot review of 245 votes in the Maryland Democratic gubernatorial primary was ordered in Circuit Court to decide if Dr. H C Byrd's 57 vote margin in Talbot County stands.
