OPA Action May Lower Liquor Prices in 1942
Washington reports the Office of Price Administration expects a general drop in liquor prices after new fixed markups go into effect August 29. The rule sets retailer margins at distilled spirits 33 percent, wine 50 percent, and cordials 45 percent, with wholesalers applying 15 percent, 25 percent, and similar pass-through markups. Prices frozen to March 1942 highs will face adjustments for taxes and brand changes blamed on new products and enforcement gaps.
