The seventh annual Brunswick Potomac River Festival kicked off at 10 a.m. with strong attendance and expected peak crowds. Organizers estimate 5 000 to 8 000 visitors over three days of displays, demonstrations, and antique shows in Brunswick. The event also features a Chessie System exhibit and a Potomac River Festival Museum with Brunswick artifacts. Admittance to the museum is 75 cents with extended hours Friday and Saturday.

County landfill deemed unsuitable for animal shelter site
