Soap Magnate named defense secretary amid stock concerns
Neil H. McElroy, longtime Procter and Gamble head, was named by President Eisenhower as secretary of defense. Senate likely requires divestment of some stock holdings including General Electric and Chrysler before confirmation, with McElroy holding large P G stock and facing conflicts similar to predecessor Wilson.
