Welded rail set to end clickety clack on trains
Rail history notes progress as welded rails replace traditional joints on lines like New Haven and Santa Fe. Officials expect New Haven to cover from New York to Boston and Hartford to Springfield within five years. Trains will ride easier and maintenance costs drop, though nostalgia fades. Five residents organized a rescue party to aid five Army Air Corps aviators who crashlanded their amphibian plane from Langley Field off the Patuxent River near Coral Port. The aviators—Irving Alhaugh, Clarry Roulzahn, Daniel and Edward Thomas, and John Ferguson—were saved.
